Jessica Haight, former Ridgefielder and granddaughter of former Ridgefield police chief John Haight, is the author, along with Stephanie Robinson, of The Secret Files of Fairday Morrow and Fairday Morrow and the Talking Library. The books follow 11-year-old detective Fairday Morrow, who moves from New York to a spooky old house in Connecticut. Along with her best friend Lizzie, she solves mysteries.
As a child, Haight lived with her grandfather in an old house on Lake Mamanasco, which served as an inspiration for the first book in the series. She says that it would sound like someone was walking around upstairs when everyone was downstairs. Her grandfather would explain to her that it was “Ruby Begonia in her high-heeled sneakers,” she told the Ridgefield Press. In The Secret Files of Fairday Morrow, the two girls set out to solve the mystery of the Begonia House, which involves Ruby Begonia.
Haight’s second book in the series, Fairday Morrow and the Talking Library, is in memory of her grandfather, chief Haight.
